What Are Google Web Stories

Google web stories are a new way to present your content online. Web stories are short, snackable visual content that attracts viewers to your website. Think of them as the stories that you see across social media on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Google’s Recommendations:

  • Videos should be shot in portrait mode, not landscape mode.
  • Videos should be 15 seconds or less and feature subtitles.
  • Stories should be between four and 30 pages.

Things To Consider With Web Stories

There are some important SEO tips to keep in mind during the creation process for optimal performance.

Web Stories Are Like Any Other Page

Web Stories are a type of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) so think of them like any other page on your site. Before publishing, ask yourself if this piece of content is something Google would index. The usual SEO practices apply. Create original content and use high-quality media. Structure headings, subheadings, and body text like in a normal post.

Implement Web Story Tracking

Track your web story performance using a standard Google Analytics integration. Inside of the Editor Settings in the web story dashboard is an area to add your Google Analytics Tracking ID. There is also reporting available in Google Search Console.
